Spawning opts out 78 million artworks from AI training
A significant step towards consenting AI training
Since launching opt outs at haveibeentrained.com last December, Spawning has helped thousands of individual artists and organizations remove 78 million artworks from AI training.
We believe that this initiative establishes a groundbreaking precedent toward realizing our vision of consenting AI, and we are just getting started.
Opt-out requests came through individual artists registered through haveibeentrained.com, and also through collaborations with platforms committed to representing the interests of their artists.
We partnered with ArtStation to ensure opt-out requests made on their site are honored in our API.
We have also partnered with Shutterstock to opt out all images posted to their platforms by default.
Opted-out artworks will not be used for future AI model training by participating organizations. These artworks will not be used to train Stable Diffusion V3, one of the most anticipated new image models, and we commend Stability AI for being the first to honor artists’ requests to opt out their work.
We hope the success of this pilot will encourage more generative AI organizations to join this effort. We make these opt-out requests available to any organization training models.
We provide these services for free. We strongly believe that our vision for consenting data will benefit both AI organizations and the artists whose work is used to train these systems. We recently launched human verified artist opt-in, and have more tools and partnerships in the works to be announced soon.
